There has been a fair amount of discussion in the media in the last week or so about procurement thereby reawakening the debate that followed publication of the National Audit Office (NAO) report earlier this year. The report highlighted how NHS Trusts are struggling financially and how improved procurement processes offer an opportunity to save funds. Having reviewed many procurement processes and worked with NHS organisations to help them develop clear and concise frameworks to secure better efficiency we can echo the truth in this statement.
The NAO said not only is the complex procurement process often cited as a reason for the slow adoption of technology it is also responsible for, in many cases, poor purchasing. Procurement is of course only one part of adoption but it is refreshing to see that it is getting the continued attention it warrants.
